The CURB project was funded by the Department of Ecology and was implemented in partnership with Kooskooskie Commons and the Walla Walla Conservation District. The project has worked with more than 80 landowners in the cities of Walla Walla and College Place to offer technical assistance, supplies, materials and labor to restore native riparian vegetation along the numerous creeks that flow through these towns. The riparian restoration improves water quality in these streams by reducing water temperatures, non-point sediment sources and various pollutants such as fecal coliform bacteria, chlorinated pesticides and PCBs. These restored riparian habitats filter pollutants, stabilize stream banks and provide shade, nutrients and food for aquatic species.
